The End of the Stem Cell Wars

Reprogrammed Stem Cells Work as well as Those From Embryos:  The journal, Science, reports that a new study suggests that ES stem cells and iPS stem cells are equivalent, and this may help soothe worries about the capabilities of iPS cells.  From 2002 to 2010, claims about the unique potential of human embryonic stem cells were common. Now, ES cells and iPS cells were equally good at specializing into a variety of nervous system cells, the researchers report online today in Nature Biotechnology.  Students can, with attention to the two kingdoms, examine the recent history of this issue as a case study in how science is conducted, reported, and disputed.  See also What ever happened to the stem cell wars?
